Pieces of Me
By Shirine A. Hossaini
My poetry is the result of deep emotions building up inside me. In a
seemingly sudden way, they boil over onto paper. I don't spend time thinking
about what I'm going to write, nor do I edit my work. I believe that editing it
would be editing my emotions. How can someone edit the rumblings of their soul?
I, for one, cannot. Therefore, I present my poetry to you as raw, unthinking,
pure emotion. The poems that I have chosen to put up deal with two separate but
equally important subjects. The first set deals with the suffering that man
imposes upon his fellow man through imprisonment. A golden cage is still a cage
and a prisoner in a palace is still a prisoner. All forms of imprisonment cause
pain. The other set of poems deals with the suffering that man imposes upon his
fellow man through the act of war. Unfortunately, we witnessed this first hand
via imbedded reporting from the front lines. The first casualty of the 'War on
Iraq' was a woman, a Jordanian woman. Let it be known that my site is under
construction. As time goes by, more of my poems and other works will be added. I
am also working on some graphics for the site and hope to have that ready very
soon. For anyone who would like to email me my address is shirinehossaini@yahoo.com.
